Billers, Inc. is co-owned by Hugh Simmons and Kristin Mitchell, both LCSWs. Between them they have fifty years of experience in private practice. As their respective practices grew, Hugh and Krisitin felt increasingly overwhelmed by the bureaucratic demands of insurance and billing paperwork. Submitting claims, tracking insurance payments, handling unpaid and rejected claims, following-up on late co-pays and/or out-of-pocket payments and keeping up-to-date financial records devoured hours each week. This time could have been used for additional sessions or for just plain leisure.

In researching medical billing services Kristin and Hugh found an abundance of companies devoted to the needs of medical doctors, but very few for psychotherapists and other mental health professionals. Kristin and Hugh decided to join with Neal Charles, a former research analyst for the Smithsonian Publishing & Digital Network and expert in information technology. Together they formed Billers, Inc.
